Lien Waiver Autopilot: Setup Guide
Updated 2026-09-26
Short answer
About 10 minutes. You need the copy link and license key from your purchase email and the Google account (Gmail or Google Workspace) you want requests to come from. Make a copy, fill in Settings, then choose Autopilot › Start Autopilot… in the sheet's menu.
1. Make your copy
Open the copy link from your purchase email and choose Make a copy. The copy, and the script inside it, belong to your Google account. We can't see your sheet or your email.
2. Fill in Settings
- Company name and your name for the sign-off.
- Your project names (they feed the Project dropdown).
- Optional: next to each waiver type, paste a link to the blank form you use, for example your state's statutory form shared from Google Drive. It's added to request emails for that type.
The other settings have sensible defaults: overdue after 7 days, a reminder every 3 days, at most 3 reminders, weekdays only, and a digest every Monday.
3. Delete the example rows
Rows 5–8 on the Waiver Log show what each status looks like. They use made-up addresses and are never emailed, but delete them before you add your own.
Coming from the free tracker? Copy columns A–K and O (Notes) from its Waiver Log and paste them into the same columns. Rows that already have a Date requested get reminders when they're overdue, not a new request.
4. Start Autopilot
- In the sheet, choose Autopilot › Start Autopilot…. Google asks you to approve access; tick every box (the permissions are explained below).
- Enter your license key, check your sign-off, and accept your time zone if asked.
- Press Send me a test email and check how a request looks.
- Read the preview of what Autopilot will send, then press Start Autopilot. From then on it checks the sheet every 15 minutes.
Everyday use
Add one row per waiver. Once a row has a project, party, waiver type, amount and contact email, Autopilot emails the request from your Gmail. When the signed waiver comes back, fill in Date received. When you pay, fill in Date paid: for a conditional waiver, Autopilot adds the matching unconditional row and asks for it a few days later. Before each check run, open the Check Run tab or choose Autopilot › Email me the check-run list.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Not requested | Row isn't complete yet, or it's waiting for the 10-minute pause after your edit. |
| Requested | Request sent; not overdue yet. |
| Overdue | No waiver after the overdue period. Reminders go out as replies in the same thread. |
| Reply in | The sub replied. Check the email, then fill in Date received. Clear "Reply in" to resume reminders if it wasn't the waiver. |
| Bounced | The email address didn't work. Fix it and Autopilot sends a fresh request. |
| Received | Done. |
Tick Don't email on any row to keep Autopilot away from it. The Activity tab lists everything Autopilot did.

Frequently asked questions
Google says “Google hasn’t verified this app”. Is that safe?+
Yes. The script lives in your own copy of the spreadsheet, so you are its owner, and Google shows this screen for any script in a personal Gmail account that can send email. Choose Advanced, then Go to Lien Waiver Autopilot. On Google Workspace accounts the screen usually doesn't appear.
It says “Access blocked” or “This app is blocked”.+
Your Google Workspace admin restricts apps. Ask them to open Admin console › Security › Access and data control › API controls and tick “Trust internal, domain-owned apps”, or allow this app. Your copy counts as an internal app because someone in your company owns it.
A row isn't being emailed.+
Look at the Autopilot column on that row. It says what's missing (for example an amount or a contact email), flags a bad address, or shows the date it will send. Requests wait 10 minutes after your last edit, and nothing goes out while “Send requests automatically” is No, except when you choose Autopilot › Send due emails now.
A sub replied but the row didn't change to “Reply in”.+
Autopilot spots replies in the same email thread as its request, checked about once an hour. If the waiver arrived as a new email or from another address, fill in Date received yourself.
Can several people use the sheet?+
Yes. Anyone you share the sheet with can add rows. Start Autopilot from one account only: emails go out from the Gmail of the person who started it.
How do I stop it or remove its access?+
Autopilot › Pause Autopilot stops all emails. To remove its access completely, go to myaccount.google.com/permissions and remove the app.
